AIRplus® Bio Home Compostable and AIRplus® 100% Recycled air cushions are ClimatePartner certified by measuring and reducing their carbon footprint and supporting climate projects.
Metzingen, September 2023.We continue to promote sustainability by measuring and setting reduction targets for CO2 emissions resulting from the production and shipment of AIRplus® Bio Home Compostable and AIRplus® 100% Recycled air cushions. For all residual CO2 emissions, we support climate projects. The air cushions are two sustainable and innovative solutions, implemented to reduce CO2 by using green energy, high recycled content and renewable materials. This initiative is part of our long-term company-wide strategy to create a future-proof and sustainable business. With the “ClimatePartner certified” label, we confirm our climate action commitment. Currently, we are working on the definition and implementation of ambitious CO2 reduction targets in the short and long term. At Storopack we steadily work on good and sustainable product design and on conscious decision-making such as the procurement of raw materials with low emissions. This whole process is one step of the company-wide strategy. Another step of the strategy is that we support the Rimba Raya climate project through the well-known company ClimatePartner which certifies its projects by a third party and meets internationally accepted standards (Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and CCBS Gold Level) for impactful climate actions. Additionally, our employees will participate in planting 2,500 trees in 2024 in Germany. The combination of both projects will protect biodiversity while also involving employees in these efforts.
Preserving Habitats
Consisting of 64,000 hectares of forest, the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve in southeastern Borneo is home to some of the endangered Borneo orangutans and serves as a buffer zone between palm oil farms and Tanjung Puting National Park. Dedicated to restoring forests, increasing carbon storage and creating additional habitat for wild animals, the project reduces greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 3.5 million metric tons annually and has been verified by the Sustainable Development Verified Impact Standard (SD VISta) and AENOR as a contributor to all 17 of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
We are continuously working on becoming more sustainable and have set a target of manufacturing at least 50 percent of our in-house manufactured products from recycled or renewable raw materials by 2025. In 2022, we have manufactured 35 percent of our products from renewable or recycled materials.
